With the recent release of the Android and iOS mobile app of Pokemon Go, it’s now fun and easy to check out tons of small businesses, parks, and other locations no one would have thought to have explored before. For those of you who are unfamilar with all this new hype, Pokemon Go is a wonderful nostalgic game for those who grew up in the 90s with the original release of Pokemon for the Gameboy handhelds, and later, the Gen Y group who were born in the 2000s. Pokemon Go was created by Niantic, “The Pokemon Company”, which combines Augmented Reality with the beloved race to catch ’em all. Upon downloading the app, users are prompted to create their character with a unique name and design. By utilizing the smartphone, or handheld device’s GPS, users can then leave their homes, and explore neighborhoods and cities with the goal to catch small creatures, Pokemon. The user’s phone/device will buzz or ping when a Pokemon is nearby, and the device’s camera will show the creature in the site that the user is standing in. By using their finger, the user can swipe the PokeBall towards the Pokemon, and if lucky, they will capture the creature, gaining them experience and other items necessary for leveling up. Aside from the Pokemon themselves, users can also travel to PokeStops, real-life locations that will spit out extra items that the user may need. Gyms, places where you can battle your Pokemon against other users, are also in real-life locations. Upon reaching Level 5, the user can travel to a Gym, where they will be prompted to join one of the three teams: Red (Valor), Blue (Mystic), or Yellow (Instinct). This is often times either an easy or difficult decision for the user, as teams cannot be changed after picking. Some users will choose based on nostalgic qualities, such as the very first Pokemon game they ever played, or based on how the game describes each team.
Pokemon Go is truly an innovative game, as it requires users to get out of their homes and explore nature, new towns, and make friends. It’s also great for small businesses, as some have been picked as Gyms or PokeStops. Surrounding businesses who were unable to become either, still benefit from the foot traffic of users. Many businesses offer free water to users on hot days, or post photos on social media of the Pokemon they have caught in their buildings, as a way to lure in new customers.
Objects Found is not a PokeStop or a Gym, but we have plenty nearby! The closest Gym can be reached by walking to the Catonsville Fire Department, which is located right at the intersection of Frederick Road, Egges Lane (that’s us!), and Mellor Avenue.
PokeStops include, but are not limited to:
The Music Note near Strawberry Fields
Catonsville United Methodist Church
We also understand how important it is for Trainers to get some rest and find their way out from the heat of the summer. Objects Found is offering 20% off of one item to Trainers who come into our store with either (1) the Pokemon Go app open, and shown to the employees, or (2) by stating which team they belong to (Instinct, Mystic, or Valor). So tell all of your friends, your children, or even bring yourself, come check out all of our goodies, and then defend your team!

Last year you got your sweetheart flowers and you have gone out to dinner for the past few Valentine’s Days. Maybe it’s time to try something new. Strangely enough, one of the best ways to do this is by seeking something old at an antique shop. Remember that one of the best ways of connecting, or reconnecting, with your significant other is to discover something new together. Browsing antiques can be the perfect way to do exactly that.
How is this romantic?
I don’t know if you’ve ever gone antiquing before, but it usually takes a long time to see all the shop has to offer. If you go with your dearest, all that time spent looking and walking can be quality time spent together. In some ways, antique shops are like little museums that you are lucky enough to be able to take home. Each object you find is a potential moment that you and your sweetheart can bond over. Didn’t their mother have a china set just like that one? Weren’t the champagne glasses at your wedding just like those? Suddenly you’re reminiscing or maybe you’re learning something new. Either way, you are having a lovely time together and that’s what matters.
Need a gift?
Maybe you’ve already made your Valentine’s Day reservations or you’re heading off for a romantic getaway so you don’t want to spend your date in an antique shop. That’s totally understandable. However, you can still snag a unique gift for your darling before you set sail. Here at Objects Found we have everything from cute tea cups to antique lighters. Find something special that shows your mate how much you listen to them, how much you care. We have all kinds of heart shaped items that will make your beloved feel blissful. However, if you don’t want the pressure of choosing a gift, you can always grab a gift certificate and let your special person pick something out themselves.
Objects Found is located in the heart of Catonsville at 818 Frederick rd. You can reach us by phone at 410-744-9000 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
