Objects Found - A Great Place to Spend a Summer Day or Evening!

Hi, how are you? I’ve taken some time off lately so I don’t know whether you have been into the shop or not. I hope you are getting a much needed vacation. As usual, I wanted to drop you a note to let you know what is going on at Objects Found and in and around Catonsville.

First of all, I am grateful to those of you that stopped by in June for our Client Appreciation Day and most of all to Linda Penkala of Corporate Pit Stop for giving seated massages the entire afternoon. I know everybody enjoyed her magic and I can’t thank her enough for hanging out at Objects Found. Her kindness and skill are always welcome.

July 15th, Thursday 6:30 an evening with

Vincent DePaul Gisriel Jr.

“Hearts Away, Bombs Away.”

Vince presents a true story about a World War II hero and along the way he discovers a beautiful love story. I hope you can stop by to meet Vince and hear about the path that led to this wonderful story. Plus, Vince and I agreed to give part of the proceeds to Disabled Sports USA, Wounded Warrior Project www.dsusa.org since we are talking about heroes and about love. I have read quite a bit of the book and found it to be easy, pleasant reading and I love it when he mentions places in Baltimore that I know so well. It’s like watching a Barry Levinson movie!

I hope you can make it. I always have enough refreshments so that you can come straight from work. Those of you, who have been at Objects Found book signings, know that we always have a nice time.

What else? Well, today is Bastille Day and I just have to tell you that I went to Paris for the first time in my life and I had an absolutely wonderful time. I learned so much. I went to museums and saw so many paintings and sculpture that I could not believe I was actually visiting. Wow! Gargoyles! I sell a gargoyle once a month but I got to visit the ones at Notre Dame. Eiffel Tower – Of Course I went up and guess what? At the very top, there is an apartment/office that Mr Eiffel used occasionally and they have wax figures of Mr Thomas Edison presenting Mr Eiffel with a phonograph – one that he had just exhibited at the Paris World Exposition. I have three of those in the shop. Yes – three – and the price just went up! I visited flea markets but bought very little. I guess I was a little intimidated about negotiating in French (since I do not speak it at all) and Kirk had to remind me about transportable and affordable.

BUT – let’s talk about the dining. Was it great? Yes – but I am spoiled. I spend every day in the 800 block of Catonsville. I can eat Beignets at Dusenberg’s while I people watch. Regions feels like Europe and serves water in tall beautiful bottles and great food. Atwaters Bakery is as wonderful as the boulangeries of Paris. Dessert at I Scream for Ice Cream takes care of my need for chantilly (French for whip cream.) Catonsville Gourmet delights me with their specials and the buzz of activity. Ship’s Café has outdoor seating like the cafes of Paris and the seafood is terrific while you people watch. Frederick Road Fridays heard from Jennings Beer Garden is very Rive Gauche. I guess what I’m trying to say is – We have it all in Catonsville!

Wow-what a weekend. Snow everywhere - so between digs, we can catch up on Madmen. I love that show because it has so much Style. The furniture, the clothing, the hairdos – they take us to what was thought to be sooooo glamorous. We have a room at Objects Found that has all that glamour and more. Turquoise and brown – flamingos and swans. Heywood Wakefield furniture and Haeger pottery, as well as, barware and ashtrays for those with glaaaaaamorous tastes. Saving The Best For Last: Creating Our Lives After 50

Book Signing

We are having a Book Signing “Saving the Best for Last: Creating Our Lives After 50″ Friday, October 9 from 6pm – 8pm. The authors, Renee Fisher, Joyce Kramer and Jean Peelen are joining us at Objects Found for a pleasant evening of discussion and refreshments.

The authors are gathering from California, Florida and Virginia -for real – to talk to us. The book,”Saving the Best for Last”…Creating Our Lives After 50 is a roadmap and guidebook that discusses how we approach the various aspects of aging: sexuality, dating, spirituality and loss. This is a moment of your life to celebrate.

I read their other book “Invisible No More: The Secret Lives of Women over 50, in 2005 (even though I was much too young then) I remember laughing out loud, then crying (so I had to stop reading) and then laughing so hard that I cried. I plan to settle in for a good read this week.

So please join us for a few hours of chatting and sipping with some of the finest people you could possibly hope to meet.

Sales Donation

During the month of October we are donating 10% of our sales to the Fels Lane Neighborhood Association. Who? Why? FLNA is a newly formed group that has joined to stop urban sprawl at the Historic District of Ellicott City in Howard County. I am living in that area right now and I love the beautiful old homes and wooded lots. There is a move in the area toward maximum density development where we currently enjoy wooded areas filled with birds and bugs and deer and raccoons and life! Proceeds form this benefit will help support the ongoing challenges of trying to talk with City Hall (that means time and money).

Spotlight on Vintage Clothing

October is Spotlight on Vintage Clothing. Why? Because we all need something warm to wear this month and something cool to wear on Halloween!!!!. So clothing and hats are 30% off until the hallowed eve. What a selection! Vintage is hot! Does anybody want to be a bride or groom for Halloween? We are loaded with great outfits.

Objects Found has EVERYTHING… and then some! If I come in looking for a lampshade I walk out with two AND a newly discovered knick-knack that I decided I could absolutly not live without!

The staff is comprised of friendly faces willing to also use their hands to help anyone who asks. Always an enjoyable visit and hardly anyone leaves without some kind of treasure!
